Stars:*****

When Connwaer picks the pocket of an old man walking around in the twilight, the last thing he expects is that the man is a magician. However, that is exactly what the man is, and when Connwaer accidentally steals the magician's locus magicalicus Connwaer becomes sucked into a mystery as big as the magic itself.

Somehow, the magic of the city is dwindling away into nothing, but can Connwaer figure out why before it's too late? Or will the devious Underlord Crowe get away with the biggest crime this century? Read the series to find out!

This book was actually recommended to me by my little brother. At first I was pretty dubious as to the worth of the book, but once I started reading I was hooked. A very fast-paced read, this book leaves you excited to read the trilogy. All of the characters are very well planned out and the plot is intense with excitement and danger around every corner.

Song Quest

Stars:******

Imagine a place where you can hear a voice on the other side of world without a telephone, or heal without medicine. Imagine learning the dreadful power of killing without a weapon, or sending someone to sleep with your voice alone. All this and more is possible in the world of the singers. On the island of echoes, young children are taught the songs of power. Challa, with the power to send someone to sleep. Kashe, with the power to make someone laugh. Shi, with the power to make someone cry. Aushan, with the power to unlock the deepest fears, and make someone cower in terror. And Yhen, with power to kill.

Rialle is a final year novice on the island of echoes. Just as she is about to finish her training, she suddenly begins to hear half-creatures, who are half human and half animal. Because of this great talent, the first singer, who is the leader of all the singers, sends her with a contingent of other singers, to try and stop the ferocious Karchholders from brutally maiming, and in some cases, eating, the half creatures.

Meanwhile, Kherron, a novice from Rialle's class, has run away; determined to prove that he is just as good as any singer on the island. When their paths cross, can Raille and Kherron stop the mysterious Kihzpriest from destroying the island of echoes? Or will the singers be destroyed? Read the series to find out!

This is a really compelling story about friendship and magic, where magic really takes the backseat. Rialle is full of fear at the beginning, but by the end has found her courage. Kherron is cocky and full of himself at first, but soon learns humility and patience. The ending is really good, and wraps up just enough to leave you satisfied yet excited to read the rest of the series.

Faerie Door

Stars: *****

Ever so long ago, the Faerie Queen created rings to allow children to pass through the magical portals that connect the worlds. Now, two children separated by a century and an ocean will meet in the most extraordinary way possible.

Meet Victoria Deveney, a spunky eleven year old english aristocrat from 1890. One night, while visiting her uncle Dexter, Victoria stumbles upon a secret tower room containing a book of mysterious poems and a powerful ring. On impulse, Victoria puts on the ring and steps through a door, and is magically transported to Alton Bay, New Hampshire, nearly one hundred years in the future. There she meets Elliot Good, who has also found a ring.

Together, they must save the worlds from the evil sorceress, Queen Ulricke and her fearsome shadow knight. But can they finish their quests in time? Or will the shadow knight grow too powerful for even Ulricke to command? Read the book to find out!

This book seems pretty slow at first, but give it time to grow on you and you'll soon realize what a good book it is. The whole Faerie concept is pretty well planned out and the characters are pretty interesting. Victoria seems like a brat at first, but she's full of depth that will surprise you. Elliot, on the other hand, is pretty much what he seems to be, with a few shocking twists. All in all, it's a really good book, and I even think there's a sequel. So if you're a lover of good old fashioned faeries, this is definitely a good read for you.

False Prince

Stars: ****

When a mysterious nobleman named Conner shows up at Sage's orphanage to force him to join him, Sage is suspicious  Even more so when he finds out that Conner has also selected three boys who are similar to him. When Conner reveals his plan, Sage is aghast. But can Sage out-wit Conner without revealing his biggest secret? Or will Conner kill to protect his plot? Read the series to find out!

This is a pretty good book. It starts kind of slow and the clues are kind of obvious, but when it picks up speed it's really intense. The second book has just come out and I'm eager to read it and find out what happens next. This is a trilogy and so there is a third book in the works. It's a pretty good read, and the characters are well realized, so all and all it's a pretty good book.

Together with his best friend George, he will set out on a magical journey filled with danger, humor, and just the right amount of romance along the way. Sucked into the dire world of mystery and politics and magic, Aubrey will attempt to stop the worlds greatest villain, while still keeping himself from dying the true death. Can he manage it all? This book was an impulse read. I spotted it on the shelves of my school library and decided to pick it up. Within minutes, I was hooked. There are six books total in this series, so make sure you have enough time for a series before you pick it up. The action is apparently a little slow in the beginning, but I honestly didn't notice, so I'll let you be the judge. Other than that, it's a really good read.
